Heathrow Terminal 5, cycle route improvements
The location
Part of a network of cycle route improvements surrounding Heathrow Terminal 5.
The brief
We were commissioned by the Groundwork Trust Thames Valley on behalf of Surrey County Council and Spelthorne Borough Council to restore a collapsed and flooded section of the route.
Our solution
Fell approximetly 20 dangerous overhanging poplars. Dig out the blocked and collapsed culvert, demolish the existing path, turnover and re-compact. Re-build the culvert with reinforced concrete-filled sand bags, laid as bricks. Build up the entire section of route, incorporating the culvert with MOT type 1 granite. Top dress route with 6mm to dust granite and compact.
The result
The entire section has been raised above the flood-risk area to act as a causeway and is an easy to use and aesthetically pleasing location. Transforming a hazzardous section of the route from a flooded mess to a brand new, level and safe path.
