The site

The Chess Valley Walk is a 10 mile trail through the Chilterns following the River Chess from Chesham to Rickmansworth.

The brief

To supply and install a 182 metre length of walkway along a wet section of the path to the South of Sarratt Bottom, adjacent to Frogmore Meadow SSSI.

The solution

Maydencroft Rural designed and constructed an elevated walkway. The substructure was built from recycled plastic on a layer of woven geotextile membrane to prolong its life. The walk boards (decking timbers) were pressure-treated softwood to give the impression of a wooden boardwalk.

The result

From being a near-impassable trail, the new structure has made this section of path a feature of the walk.
